Matthew Lepis

Matthew rowed for Ridgewood High School. In 2019, he finished 1st at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, 1st at SRAA Nationals, and 2nd at the Head of the Schuylkill in the JV 4x. In 2021, he finished 2nd at SRAA Nationals, 3rd at Stotes and 2nd at Mid-Atlantics in the Varsity 2x.

At GW, Matthew stroked the 2V8+ to an ACRA National Championship in 2022. In 2023, he sat bow-seat in the 1V8+ that finished 1st at Occoquan Sprints, 1st at the GW Invite, 5th at Knecht Cup, and 2nd at ACRA. In 2023-2024, he stroked the 4+ to Bronze at Head of the Charles, and stroked the 1V8+ to 5th at Head of the Schuylkill, and 1st at MARC. In 2024-2025, Matthew sat in six-seat of the 1V8+ that placed 6th at Head of the Schuylkill. He is currently the President of GWMR and previously served as Vice President from 2023-2024. 

Braden Barnett

Braden is a three-time Virginia State Champion in the V8+, 2x, and F8+ and a Head of the Schuylkill champion with McLean High School. While at McLean, he led the program to several top-10 finishes at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and SRAA Nationals, capped by an undefeated season his senior year in 2021.

At GW, Braden won gold in the 2V8+ at ACRA and placed 3rd at Dad Vails in 2022. He rowed in both the 2V8+ and 1V8+ across four seasons, highlighted by a bronze medal finish at the 2023 Head of the Charles in the 4+. Braden coaches high school rowing at his alma mater, McLean High School, and enjoys studying history and the Russian language. Braden currently serves as GWMR's Team Captain for the 2024-2025 season.

Stephen Stamas

Stephen is an accomplished rower, having won a New Jersey State Championship with Montclair High School. At the collegiate level, he sat seven-seat of the 3V8+ in 2023, which placed 2nd at ACRA, and sat three-seat of the 2V8+ in 2024, which placed 2nd at MARC. Off the water, Stephen is pursuing a degree in International Affairs and has experience working with the National Counterterrorism Center. In his free time, he enjoys reading, and spending time with friends.

Andrew Zivkovic

Andrew rowed for Three Rivers Rowing Association in high school. At GW, he stroked the Freshman 8+ in 2021–22, stroked the 3V8+ in 2023 to 2nd at ACRA, and stroked the 2V8+ in the fall of 2023. He later rowed in two-seat of the 2V8+ in the spring of 2024 placing 2nd at MARC. He previously worked with the Croatian Mission to the World Bank. His hobbies include cycling and tennis.

Mark rowed for Glastonbury High School, winning the CPSRA Championship and serving as Team Captain his senior year. At GW, he won bronze in the 2V8+ at Dad Vails in 2022 and silver in the 2V8+ at MARC in 2024. In May, he will commission as an Officer in the Marine Corps. Mark enjoys hiking, shooting, skiing, and fishing.

Zach Ramsey

Zach is a dedicated student-athlete double majoring in Political Science and International Affairs with a focus in security policy. His professional experience includes internships with the Kurdish Information Network, the National Council for the Resistance of Iran, the Center for a Free Cuba, and several political campaigns and offices including Congressman Brian Mast, Congressman Michael Cloud, and the House Oversight Committee. Zach enjoys woodworking, hiking, horseback riding, and restoring cars.

Mark Parrish

Mark began rowing as a freshman at GW. In his sophomore season, he earned a silver medal at ACRA in the 3V8+. He rowed 5-seat in the 2V8+ in 2024. Outside of rowing, Mark has worked on cybersecurity research in conjunction with the GWU Usable Security Lab and is currently leading a UAV capstone project sponsored by Raytheon Technologies. He is also in the midst of his second season coaching rowing for Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, seeking a repeat of the state championship victory of the previous season.

Samanvitha Kaushik

Samanvitha rowed for four years at Sammamish Rowing Association in Redmond, WA before joining GW. She began coxing at GW in 2021–22 with the Freshman/Novice 8+, then led the 1V8+ in 2022–23 to victories at the Head of the Housatonic, Occoquan Sprints, and the GW Invite, as well as a 5th-place finish at Knecht Cup. She coxed the 2V8+ through the ACRA Grand Final and was named the First Team All-American coxswain. In 2023–24, she coxed the 1V8+ to 5th at the Head of the Schuylkill and led the 1V4+ to 3rd at the Head of the Charles. That spring, she returned to the 1V8+, which won the MARC Championship and competed strongly at Kerr Cup and ACRA. In the fall of 2024–25, she continued to cox the 1V8+, racing at the Head of the Charles and placing 6th at the Head of the Schuylkill.

Tiernan Green

Tiernan rowed for Riverside Boat Club in high school placing top three in the Northeast in both the Men’s 1x and Men’s 2x. He also competed at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta placing 2nd in the Men’s Senior LTW 4x, 3rd in Men’s U23 LTW 4-, 5th in the men’s U23 LTW 2x, and 6th in the Men’s Senior 64kg 1x. At GW, he competed in bow seat of the 2V8+ his Freshman year placing 6th at ACRA, and was bow seat of the 1V8+ his Sophomore and Junior years placing 1st at MARC 2024. He is also the team’s financial officer and coaches for TBC Racing.

Aidan Brown

Aidan rowed for Montclair High School, where he won the Stotesbury Cup JV8+ in 2021 and the NJ State Championship in the 1V8+ in 2022. At GW, he stroked the 2V8+ to a 6th-place finish at ACRA in 2023, won MARC in 2024 in 2-seat, and stroked the 1V8+ to 6th at Head of the Schuylkill. Off the water, he’s involved in coastal ecology research in the Gedan Lab at GW and has participated in the Coastal Critical Zone Network REU and the Harlan Fellowship. He enjoys biking and sleeping. Aidan currently serves as GWMR's Vice President for the 2024-2025 season. 

Alex Gilenson

Alex rowed for Row New Jersey starting in his junior year of high school. His collegiate rowing accomplishments include stroking the Freshman 8+ to victories over UNC and Delaware at the GW Invite, racing in the 2V8+ at ACRA and the Knecht Cup, and competing in the 1V8+ with appearances at the Head of the Charles and Head of the Schuylkill. He interned in the office of Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-5). Alex enjoys cycling, skiing, ocean swimming with his dad, and playing tennis with his brother.

James Thompson

James Thompson is a native of Norfolk VA, where he rowed for four years for Norfolk Academy. At GW, James sat 3 seat in the 2023 2V8+, 2 seat in the 2023 HOCR 4+, and 4 seat of the 2024 1V8+. He sat 2 seat of the 1V8+ in the fall. James is pursuing a double major in international affairs and data science with a minor in GIS. He currently interns at the National Defense University and he is an avid cyclist in his free time.

JP was a championship basketball player at Fordham Prep, winning the 2022 CHSAA New York City Championship and finished second in New York State. At GW, he found rowing and was a novice rower in the Spring of 2023. He sat in four-seat of the 2V8+ in 2024 which placed 2nd at MARC, and sat in four-seat of the 1V8+ in 2024-2025 that placed 6th at the Head of the Schuylkill. He rowed for the New York Athletic Club in the Summer of 2024. Off the water, JP has interned with the U.S. Marshals Service, the New York City Department of Investigation, and the Office of U.S. Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand. In his free time, JP enjoys athletic training and listening to music.

Sam attended Vashon Island High School where he captained the varsity baseball, basketball, and football teams and was awarded the Bacchus Award for athletic excellence. At GW, he rowed to a silver medal in the 3V at ACRA 2023, sat 5-seat of the 2V in 2024 which placed second at MARC, and continued competing in the 2V in 2025. He is studying International Affairs and Geography with a minor in GIS. Sam enjoys running, bouldering, and photography in his free time.

Albert is majoring in Accounting with a concentration in International Business. He is currently an intern at Ryan & Wetmore, P.C., and enjoys going to the gym.

He has also traveled abroad for language and cultural immersion. Outside of class and rowing, Phillip enjoys studying languages, reading, and lifting.

Lucas captained his high school team, winning the MPSRA championship with Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Crew. At GW, he rowed in the 3V, placing second at ACRA in 2023. In the following year he rowed in the 2V and earned a silver medal at MARC. Professionally, Lucas has interned as a Legal Assistant Services Intern at Skadden Arps LLP and as a clerkship outreach specialist at Harvard Law School. He enjoys skateboarding and biking.

Alessandro is studying economics at George Washington University. He grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY, where he rowed for 4 years with Saratoga Rowing Association. Following the disruptions caused by COVID-19, Alessandro played a key role in rebuilding Saratoga’s rowing program, helping the team debut its first 8+ boat at both the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) and Youth Nationals—their first appearance at these events in nearly 5 years. At GW he competes in the Freshman 8,  his hobbies include photography, hiking, carpentry, and creative expression.

Ethan Rosenthal

Ethan began coxing his sophomore year of high school, racing in the N8 at the Virginia State Championship and getting second. Over the next few years he continued his coxing journey, racing many times in the summer and fall, eventually making his program’s 1v Junior year. Ethan also worked for the congressional office of Daniel T. Kildee during the summer of his junior year. His senior year he went to the Head of the Charles Regatta and won the Virginia State Championship in the 2v. While a member of GWMR, he raced at the Head of the Charles for a second time in the Varsity. He is pursuing a degree in International Affairs and when not on the water, enjoys spending time with friends.
